Welcome to KANTHA (kantha.in). By using this website or buying from us, you agree to these Terms of Service.


1. Who we are KANTHA is an online store for authentic, hand-stitched Kantha pieces — sarees, dupattas, stoles, shawls, apparel and home textiles — made by generational artisans from Nanoor, Santiniketan and nearby villages of Birbhum, West Bengal, India. By using this website, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that you are using it under the supervision of a parent or guardian.


2. Products are handmade


  • Every piece is stitched by hand, so small variations in colour, stitch, texture and motif are natural and are not defects.

  • Colours may look slightly different depending on your screen.

  • Ready-to-ship pieces are usually one of a kind. Once sold, the same piece may not be available again, but a similar piece can often be made to order.


3. Prices and payment


  • All prices are in Indian Rupees (INR).

  • Prices may change without notice; the price shown at checkout is the price you pay.

  • Payment must be completed before an order is processed. We accept payments only through secure, approved payment gateways.


4. Made-to-order and custom pieces


  • Made-to-order and custom pieces are stitched after you order and usually take 1–4 months, depending on the piece. The estimated time is shared before you pay.

  • An advance payment is required to start the work; the balance is paid after the piece is finished and before dispatch.

  • You can follow the progress of your piece on your order tracking page.

  • Cancellation: you can cancel a made-to-order or custom piece with a full refund before a master artisan is assigned to it (we usually assign one within 24 hours of the advance). Once the master artisan has been assigned, the order cannot be cancelled or refunded, because the fabric and the artisan's time are already committed.


5. Order acceptance We may refuse or cancel an order, limit quantities, or cancel orders because of pricing errors, stock unavailability or suspected fraud. If we cancel an order after payment, we refund the full amount paid.


6. Shipping Delivery times are estimates and can vary because of courier delays, weather or other events outside our control. Please make sure your shipping details are correct. See our Shipping Policy for details.


7. Returns and refunds Returns are accepted only for pieces that arrive damaged, defective or clearly different from what was ordered. Please report the issue within 72 hours (3 days) of delivery with clear photos, as explained in our Refund Policy. Every piece is sent with a sealed KANTHA security tag; returns are accepted only if this tag is still attached and unbroken.


8. Intellectual property All content on kantha.in — logos, photographs, videos, designs, text and graphics — belongs to KANTHA and its artisans and is protected by law. Copying or commercial use without our written permission is not allowed.


9. Use of the website You agree not to use the website for unlawful purposes, interfere with its security, upload harmful content or misrepresent your identity. We may block access for anyone who breaks these rules.


10. Limitation of liability KANTHA is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, delays caused by courier companies, or technical interruptions outside our control. Our maximum liability is limited to the amount you paid for the product.


11. Third-party links Our website may link to other websites or services. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.


12. Privacy Your use of this website is also governed by our Privacy Policy.


13. Changes to these terms We may update these terms at any time. Changes apply from the moment they are published on this page.


14. Governing law These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of West Bengal, India.
