About this piece
Kalka is the Bengali word for the paisley. This magenta cotton saree carries a pallu of white kalkas stitched in Kantha, with small buttis across the body. Cotton makes it breathable for Indian summers and easy for office, college or family functions — a handmade saree you will actually wear often.

Why handmade Kantha costs what it does
A Kantha saree is not printed or machine-embroidered. Every motif is drawn by hand, pinned onto the fabric, and then filled with thousands of tiny running stitches by women artisans working at home in their villages. A saree like this usually takes 3 to 4 months of patient work, which is why each one is slightly different and why no two are ever the same.
Care
Gentle hand wash in cold water with mild soap, or dry clean. Dry in shade. Iron on the reverse side so the stitches stay raised.
