About this piece
Bansh Bon Bok — the bamboo grove and its cranes. On a black pure silk ground, green bamboo rises along the saree while white cranes fly between the stems, stitched by Masuma Khatun's artisans in Bolpur. Dramatic, graceful and unmistakably Bengal.

Why handmade Kantha costs what it does
A Kantha saree is not printed or machine-embroidered. Every motif is drawn by hand, pinned onto the fabric, and then filled with thousands of tiny running stitches by women artisans working at home in their villages. A saree like this usually takes 3 to 4 months of patient work, which is why each one is slightly different and why no two are ever the same.
Care
Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft cotton or muslin cloth, and refold now and then so the creases do not set. Keep away from perfume and direct sunlight.
